Joggins wins Provincial Tourism Award

March 9th, 2009

The Joggins Fossil Cliffs is proud to have won another provincial tourism award. The Central Nova Tourist Association (CNTA) awarded the Fossil Cliffs with “Attraction of the Year” at their awards ceremony on Friday 6th March.

The Award recognises the accomplishments of the Joggins Fossil Cliffs and its managing body, the Joggins Fossil Institute, in developing a sustainable tourism resource, which is “an asset” to Nova Scotia.

The awards went on to celebrate the ongoing media coverage, marketing partnerships and potential for the development and enhancement of economic sustainability for the region and province, as a direct result of the Fossil Cliff's designation as a World Heritage Site in 2008.

Melanie Cookson-Carter, Operations Coordinator, collected the award on behalf of the Joggins Fossil Institute. “We are delighted to receive this award from the CNTA,” said Melanie in her speech “we are more than an attraction; we are educators, we are conservators and we are interpreters of a site, which has been here for over 300million years and will be around long after we are not, provided we ensure its protection for future generations.”

The Joggins Fossil Centre opens for the season on Earth Day, 22nd April 2009 and is open every day between 9:30am and 6:00pm.
